Closing in on the end of May, I am nearly done my second monthly growth challenge. At the start of May, I had planned to use something I enjoyed to see if I could be more successful than April. (My April challenge was marketing – it went ok, but was harder than expected.)
After lamenting my reluctance to record myself on video, my friend Duncan persuaded me to forego my fun challenge and instead make a video every day and he would do the same. We would pick a question each day, answer on video, then send our videos to each other.
The first few videos were awkward, sometimes requiring two takes to get something I was willing to share. A few days later, a funny thing happened. It was not so awkward, I relaxed and my personality came out. As the days passed, I started looking forward to making videos!
One of the things that helped me get through the early rough patch was knowing I was in it with someone else. Because Duncan was sending me a video, I had to make one myself. The shared commitment was all I needed.
After 20 days of recording videos, here comes the next step. I will record my first FaceBook live video to discuss the upcoming June challenge. Duncan and I will extend the shared challenge to others. We will start a free private FB group for people who want to join. Each person will have a partner; you will hold each other accountable and help each other through the challenge.
Are you up for the challenge? Let me know in the comments or send me a message to get more info.
April Challenge reflections
Ok, not sure I really want to do this, but I think a challenge outside of my comfort zone would be a good first step. The accountability is what I need to move forward.
