Getting there is half the fun (by Trish)

Written by Trish Chaput

On a recent trip, I lucked out with a window seat both ways… my favorite!

Airline travel has changed quite a bit since the days when I was living in London and jet setting all over Europe (or beyond). Back then, Jim and I racked up so many miles that I often had the luxury of selecting my seat (at no extra cost).

These days, I rarely travel and everything costs extra. Want to check a bag? Pay $30 each way. Want to select your seat in advance? That’ll cost at least $25 on each leg of your journey.

As I sat glued to the window, taking in the scenery below and snapping photo after photo, I realized how much being in the window adds to the experience of my trip. On every flight I have been on, I have been mesmerized by the view of the Earth from above.

Perhaps, on future trips, I should just pay the extra money and enjoy the guaranteed window seat that brings me so much joy. Apparently, for me, getting there is half the fun.

How much is guaranteed joy worth to you?
