Several weeks ago, Good Morning America featured a woman named Ronnie Backenstoe, a 98 year old, active Girl Scout. When asked why she was still a Girl Scout, she replied, “Why wouldn’t you stay in Girl Scouts? It is a way of living and I’m still living!”
The interviewer noted that she didn’t have many badges to show for all her years of service. Ronnie explained that when she was young, her mother gave her uniform away because she had outgrown it and someone else could use it.
Along with her uniform, her badges went away, but Ronnie declared that it didn’t matter to her. It was the experiences she gained while earning them that were important.
This wonderful lady has tons of energy! She promotes a life of kindness, service and being prepared. She completely defies what most of us expect 98-years old to look like. I hope that she is well, continuing to thrive and inspiring others to see the best in life. It was such a joy to watch and listen to her!
When I think back now to this interview, I realize Ronnie is a role model to us all with her optimistic attitude and zest for life.
What gives you a zest for life?
