For the past several years, I’ve been struggling with an outdated laptop that really couldn’t keep up with what I was asking it to do on a daily basis. For various reasons, I just couldn’t justify spending the money to replace it, despite the fact that it caused frustration literally every time I tried to use it.
Recently, Jim got a new laptop for work and now I am free to use the home laptop that he was previously using. What a remarkable difference it has made! I can now do my work with ease. With the amount of things I do online for work and personal use, this small change has a significant impact on my daily life.
A similar situation occurred last year when we replaced an aging, failing SUV with a smaller, more fuel efficient and more reliable all wheel drive vehicle. At first I was reluctant to take on a car payment, but it has been well worth it. I drive every single day and I absolutely love my new car!
Reflecting on these two examples, it made me realize that when evaluating purchases, I often think in terms of whether the thing I am considering buying is worth it. Instead, it is sometimes more appropriate to think about the fact that I am worth the investment. I’ve learned it’s hard to put a price on your time, your patience and your quality of life!
How do you invest in yourself?
I’m in a similar situation …
New phone needed
Headphones
Laptop
And home improvements
All would increase ease in which I’m currently working with clients and remove the stress.
I’ve been doing my clients sessions online and outside.
Lightbulb moment … I can turn up the brightness in the laptop which burns through the screen glare from the garden reflecting off the screen. And wear the yellow glasses 🙂
