Give a boy a hammer and everything looks like a nail. It’s a trap that could catch any of us. Our brains naturally filter for the tools we acquired most recently.

Awareness is the first step towards overcoming our biases. If you find yourself looking for issues that match a specific tool, it’s time to pause. Step back and think about the problem. Keep digging until you figure out the root cause. Once you have the cause, find the right tool.

Do you look for issues that match your tools or look for tools that will help solve your issues?
