On Tuesday night, I picked up friends at the airport in Boston. Driving home, I almost followed an old habit and took the exit for 128 north. I caught myself at the last moment. It would have led me towards Swampscott where we used to live, a bit of a detour from Tamworth.

If you take the same actions over and over, you start to do it automatically. It makes me wonder how much of what we do is from the routine of what we have done before. We no longer think about why we are doing it or the consequences.

If you are not happy with where you are headed, is it time to turn off autopilot?
