Break the pattern

Trish, Roli and I went up to the Colebrook area for the weekend. We rented the same house we always do and I saw a bunch of regular clients for Applied Movement Neurology sessions. We also met up with my sister and her husband for dinner at their house. It was a great weekend, similar to our other Colebrook trips.

One thing that was striking. Roli was more chill than he is at home. We arrived Friday night and he settled right in, going to bed upstairs while we were sitting by the fire downstairs. Saturday morning, he didn’t even go outside until after my second client arrived at 10am. At home, he’s usually bouncing off the walls if he hasn’t had a walk by 8am.

Another surprise, he didn’t beg for treats the whole time we were there. We gave him his normal meals and some after-walk snacks. At home, this is usually followed by incessant trips outside and in as he tries to wrangle more treats. Up north, what we gave him seemed satisfying.

On Sunday, we got home early afternoon and gave him a big snack as is usual after an adventure. He ate it, went outside and then promptly came back in lobbying for more. Seriously, he’s home 10 minutes and back into the old begging routine? We decided the weekend away was a good time for a reset and didn’t give him any extra. Time will tell whether we can train him to accept this new pattern.
