The fear of doing something for the first time is often worse than the doing. If you can break the ice and do it, you might find it’s not so bad.

When I was 40, I did my first handstand (against the wall) in a CrossFit class. I was so tense that my muscles started cramping up. My fears were overblown. I was fine and it wasn’t nearly as hard as I expected. After lots of training and practice, I now kick up to handstands in the middle of the room without much thought.

More recently, I did a daily video project that ended with a series of live videos on FaceBook. At the start, even recording myself talking to the camera was uncomfortable. A few weeks later, hitting the go live button on Facebook for the first time was unnerving. Still, I made myself do it several days in a row. Now I record videos regularly and go live with no trace of nerves.

I doubted I would ever get over those fears. What were you afraid of that now seems easy?

What scares you now that you can do and realize it’s not so bad?
