Short-term wins, long-term losses

Sometimes things that work really well in the short-term are worse in the long run. Many people are happy to rapidly lose weight with an ultra-low calorie diet. Unfortunately, our bodies often overcorrect when we go back to normal eating. To make up for “starving,” we gain the weight back, plus a little extra.

It’s a sad irony that the more often you do crash diets, the harder it is to lose weight. If you want to lose weight sustainably, aim to lose about 1% per week. When you reach your goal, your body is more likely to accept it as the new normal.
