Play the 30-Day Minimalism Game
Trish and I completed our biggest goal for 2020, eliminate our credit card debt. It was more challenging than expected and it feels great to be done with it. With just one more month before the new year, I decided to keep the momentum going and end the year on high note.
Starting December 1st, we’ll play the 30-Day minimalism game. It’s completely free, no sign up required and the rules are simple. Get rid of 1 item on the 1st, 2 items on the 2nd, 3 items on the 3rd and so on. Whoever makes it the most days wins.
How many things could you let go of to make room for things that give you joy?
Want to join us to play? Let me know in the comments and read the infographic below or check out the details on The Minimalists’ site.
Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.

Short-term wins, long-term losses
Sometimes things that work really well in the short-term are worse in the long run. Many people are happy to rapidly lose weight with an ultra-low calorie diet. Unfortunately, our bodies often overcorrect when we go back to normal eating. To make up for “starving," we...
New month, new habits
A new month is a great time to start something new. Of course there’s no real reason that it’s a better time than any other. Still, our weird human tendency to put emphasis on new months and new years makes it seem like a better time. If you want to kickoff a tidying...
Choice versus obligation
If you’re a loyal reader, you might have noticed that I did not publish a blog yesterday. What happened!? We had guests for the weekend and I realized I hadn’t finished a blog just as I was going to bed. In the past, I would have pulled out my computer and got it done...
Teamwork (by Trish)
In our house, we generally split the chores. Jim works from home, so he walks Roli and does the laundry. He is also usually the one to empty the dishwasher. I generally do most of the vacuuming, dusting and cleaning the bathrooms. I tend to do most of the grocery...
Do we really need…
As we continue to pursue our goal of no credit card debt and increasing our savings, Trish has questioned some of our choices. After a recent trip to the butcher, she asked, “Do we really need to buy rib eye steaks?” (We could buy a cheaper cut such as sirloin.) In...
The best diet
Do you know what the best diet is? The one that helps you reach your goals with the food that you’re willing to eat or unwilling to give up. Yes, I’m being a bit cheeky. It’s still true. A person who is focused on minimizing cancer risk and is vegetarian needs a...
A little nudge (by Trish)
When we are ready to make a change, sometimes all it takes is a little nudge in the right direction to build momentum. I am currently teaching a Nutrition & Healthy Habits small group coaching class. The recommended homework assignments have been to pick one small...
The value of early feedback
We went to a wedding a few weeks ago and I wore dress clothes that had been languishing in my closet. The trousers felt more snug than I expected. I realized that wearing forgiving workout clothes every day might be hiding the fact that my waist is expanding. Don’t...
Be honest and be kind
Sometimes people speak bluntly despite how it makes other people feel. Rationalizing your bluntness by saying that you're being honest is a poor defense. You can be honest and still be considerate of other people’s feelings. People are more likely to appreciate your...
Who is it for? (by Trish)
When Jim first started writing this blog, he wasn’t publishing it yet. He set a goal to write everyday and, in true Jim fashion, he did so. (He is very diligent when he puts his mind to something and creates new habits more efficiently than anyone else I know). He...
Strengthen your pelvic floor
Webinar Time! If you are suffering with pelvic floor disfunction, there is a lot you can do to facilitate improvement. Check out the webinar I recently did with Dr. Trish Murray from Discover Health Functional Medicine Center. We review the causes of pelvic floor...
See the good
Some people can see the bad in anything and that’s no way to live a happy life. If something you hear sounds bad, take a moment and wonder about the good in it. Your chances of seeing the good increase when you look for it. Back in my corporate days, I remember the...
