Do you dig it? (by Trish)
Tonight he came back in with dirty paws and a dirty face, looking completely content with himself. I half jokingly chastised him (in a friendly tone) and he just stared at me with a goofy grin and wagged his tail. I couldn’t even be annoyed with him. I know he’s just being a dog. Other than moving a little bit of dirt and mulch around, he’s really not doing any harm. Having watched him dig like a maniac at the beach while playing with a stick, I know how much he loves this activity.
What messiness do you overlook because it brings someone else joy?
Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.

Turn your goals into action
This is part four of my series to help you prepare for 2020. Now that you have one or more SMART goals to support your vision, you’re almost ready to go. Most of us need another step, turning goals into actions we will do consistently. Even with a SMART goal (By March...
Set SMART Goals
Once you've developed a long-term vision, it’s time to set short-term goals to help you get there. Effective goals tend to be SMART - specific, measurable, actionable, relevant and time-bound. Using one of my vision items from yesterday, here’s an example. Vision - We...
Develop your vision of the future
To navigate successfully, it’s best to know your starting point and destination. Yesterday was an opportunity to reflect on where you are. Today is about where you want to go. You can cover several areas or just focus on just one. If you’re not sure where to focus,...
What a difference a year makes

Prepare for the new year
If you want results, resolutions are overrated and everyday choices are underrated. Everyday choices are what led us to become who we are today. Our choices going forward will lead us to who we will become. Sometimes we realize we’d prefer to be someone different or...

A zest for life (by Trish)
Several weeks ago, Good Morning America featured a woman named Ronnie Backenstoe, a 98 year old, active Girl Scout. When asked why she was still a Girl Scout, she replied, “Why wouldn’t you stay in Girl Scouts? It is a way of living and I’m still living!” The...

Better to act early than late
When non-essential business are sanitizing like crazy, it’s probably time to close until the danger passes. If you want to see some projections of waiting too long to isolate ourselves, check out this page: https://covidactnow.org/state/NH Here's my thinking: If you...
Do it yourself
If you see an opportunity, take it. If you have a compelling idea, share it. Trish kept suggesting ideas for blogs that I should write. I pushed back and asked her to write the blogs herself. Now she’s published 10 guest blogs. Because I pushed back, she took a risk...
It’s all relative
Back in my Boston days, I worked with some people from the Midwest. I remember them saying that people from the area were not very friendly. At the time, I thought we were friendly and didn’t really understand what they meant. Later, Trish and I were at Lake Tahoe and...
Life is like a jumble
Trish and I often solve the word jumbles in our local newspaper. Some words that she easily solves are challenging for me and vice versa. It strikes me as a good indicator of how even people with a huge amount in common think differently. Our vocabularies have more in...
