Great goals drive action
Many of us have had goals that we never achieved. I wonder how many of us took action and fell short. It seems more likely that we didn’t take the necessary action.
Think about a goal you would like to achieve and then consider what action you can take today (or right now) to move towards your goal. If you’re not sure what to do or you don’t want to do it, it may be a good idea to revisit your goal.
If you’re not sure what to do, how will you achieve your goal?
Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.

Increase your core stability
Here is a simple drill to increase your core stability. Test Range of motion (ROM) baseline with one or both of these movements: * Forward fold with straight legs (touch your toes or the floor) * Hip rotation to each side with feet under hips and palms together in...
300!
This is my 300th blog post. If you'd asked me to write 300 posts, I probably would’ve run screaming from the room. Instead of thinking about how much work it would be, I just started. When I consider stopping, I tell myself I must go on. Every time I get through a...
Enough knowledge
If you're passionate about doing your best, you always want to know more. It’s tempting to look for more classes or chase credentials. You'll never do anything if you wait until you know everything you need. Instead, you must do the best you can with the knowledge you...
Find the bright side
We successfully made it through our kitchen repair adventure. Replacing the old faucet went much better than I expected and had some unexpected benefits. * The new faucet fits our sink better. The old one’s handle always banged against the back splash when you turned...
Good intentions
Sometimes procrastination pays off. Trish and I decided to tackle a leaky faucet today (leaky spout and handle). Result - we are heading to buy a new faucet tomorrow. Apparently, corrosion had turned our kitchen faucet into a house of cards. Of course we had to deal...
Use probability as a guide
The more options you try, the better your chance of finding the best. It’s unlikely that your initial choice is the one. But at some point, looking further is probably a waste of time. Say you love pizza and move to a new area. You should try a few pizza places before...
Start as soon as you can
With anything we do that requires skill, it’s easy to imagine how much better we would be if we had started earlier. This seems especially true when you see someone much younger who is better than you. "If only I had started when I was that young!” There’s no going...
Friction
Friction sometimes prevents us from making progress. On a lazy Sunday afternoon, it was all I could do to get myself started on finishing our tax return. I looked for distractions, but seeing all the paperwork on the counter helped me muster the will to start. Once I...
The joy of stillness
Trish, Roli and I did a hike behind Lake Chocorua today. It was cold, but the sun was shining and we had the trails to ourselves. Roli did his best to sniff out all of the deer tracks. Trish and I enjoyed the sun, trees and sounds of nature. As much as we are social...
Unhelpful truth
Honesty is one of my core values. Recently I was reminded that something can be true and unhelpful. Sometimes silence or curiosity is better than the truth. Trish was watching a training video and the presenter mentioned something about a study that showed lifestyle...
One woman’s “mean”…
Trish and I have a decades long debate about whether my antics are mean or playful. Apparently it’s a matter of perspective. One woman’s mean is another man’s playful. When I playfully share my cold hands or splash her with cold water at the lake, Trish will...
It’s a two-fer! (by Trish)
Since Jim started on his recent mission to rid us of RBF (resting bitch face), it has become a little game we play. We’ll be driving somewhere and I’ll be contemplating something and he’ll suddenly say something silly to make me laugh. “Gotcha!" he exclaims, “I cured...
