I’m more than halfway through my listening challenge. The first week was an exhausting battle, but then it started getting easier. Now two and a half weeks into it, it’s paying off.

The biggest thing I’ve noticed is that conversations have slowed down. I don’t prepare my response while someone is speaking. Instead, I reflect on what was said and then respond. I’ve nearly eradicated my old habit of interrupting or jumping on the next momentary pause. Conversations flow better and it’s easier to keep the focus on the person who’s speaking.

One surprise the other night, Trish told me I was listening too much and not responding enough. Admittedly, it was because I was reading when she started talking to me, so I was not focused on listening. Clearly I still have work to do, but I have another 12 days…

What’s one thing could you do to improve your listening skills?

Keep hands and feet still 😉

I think it is important to pay attention to whoever is speaking to you. No phone, computer, or tv to distract from them!
