As we improve our skills and learn new ones, we sometimes make big leaps. Other times we feel like we are on interminable plateaus. Significant achievements require perseverance through the plateaus. Sadly, they tend to get longer the further your skill progresses. Beginners probably don’t realize how easy they have it.

Even though plateaus are unavoidable, it’s important that you aim to progress regularly. Many small improvements can add up to big leaps. If your progress stalls, mix things up. Use deliberate practice to do more of the things moving you forward and eliminate the things holding you back. If you’re really stuck, trying something completely different may be enough to get you out of a rut.

How do you keep yourself going until you break through plateaus?

    True confessions.
Easily distracted, I keep myself going, but
    I change the direction.
    Poof! New focus!
    Not my best quality. 🙈

You never know, this could be a strength. You end up making progress in a lot of different areas and it’s greater than the sum of the parts.
