I’ve been doing an experiment around the language I use. Any time I write a sentence with the word “but” I need to rewrite it with the word “and” instead. Ideally, I do the same when I speak, which is a bit more challenging. It’s part of my long-term goal of thinking positive.
Here are some examples:
- Old way – I’d love to see you this weekend, but I have too much work to do.
- New way – I’m busy this weekend and I’m looking forward to meeting up soon.
- Old way – I would love to get in shape, but I don’t have time to go to the gym.
- New way – I decided to get in shape and I’m walking every day after lunch.
It’s simple and it might be more impactful than you expect. How can you improve your outlook and attitude with the words you choose?
