One of the headlines in a National Geographic virus update email I received:

“Here are the vaccines that you should keep an eye on”

Excuse me, I should keep an eye on vaccine development? This seems very odd considering I’m not a scientist or medical professional. I’m sure I will hear about it if someone miraculously develops a Covid-19 vaccine that was rigorously tested and believed to be safe.

Here is what I know:

  • The fastest vaccine ever developed took between 4 and 5 years.
  • Nobody has developed a vaccine for any of the other coronaviruses.
  • If someone beats the odds, everyone will hear about it.

It’s a sad state of affairs here in America. TV commercials tell me to ask my doctor about medications and now Nat Geo tells me to keep my eye on vaccines in development.

What’s the strangest advice you’ve received?
