What if no one thinks like you do?

Even after more than a quarter century together, Trish and I still puzzle each other. Sometimes I think we are from different planets. It’s a common occurrence for Trish to say something and me to respond, “What the heck are you even saying?” She then explains further and I say, “Oh, that makes sense.” Our life is a bit of a sitcom sometimes.

Last week, I asked her to review my post Possibility and then asked how she would answer the question I ended with. “What skill would you learn if you knew you could get good at it?” She could not think of anything. Apparently, she practices the skills in which she is interested.

I was flabbergasted by her response, which prompted me to reflect on her thinking. I imagine that lack of free time is the driving factor. If you know you don’t have time to add more hobbies, maybe you don’t think about them. If I asked the question differently, would I get a different result? Maybe I will try another way. “If you had unlimited time and money, what skill would you learn if you knew you could get good at it?”

Have you noticed that people think differently than you? How do you adapt?
