Writing is like the tides

The effort of writing can feel like the tides. During the flood, the words flow effortlessly and you wonder why it ever seems hard. Stay humble; it’s only a matter of time until that tide of words ebbs.

When it does, there’s nary a good word in sight and you feel like a boat stuck on a sandbar. You may think there is no way out and might even abandon ship. Don’t be hasty; if you stick it out you will realize it’s only a matter of time before the flood returns to set you free.

What do you do to get yourself through the ebbs of inspiration?
